Business Valuations: Divorce Battles and IRS Scrutiny

Description

Business valuation is often the most contested issue in a divorce and it's common for two qualified valuation analysts to review the same financials yet reach very different conclusions. This session unpacks why that happens: the methodology choices, normalization adjustments, and weighting which are often the material drivers of value. We’ll focus on calculations of value for closely held business valuations, briefly touch base on gift and estate tax valuations and the IRS’s more detailed conclusion‑of‑value requirements, and when a formal conclusion of value makes sense in a divorce.
